Happy New Year!   We’re looking forward to 2012. It was a pretty good year at Rabbit Kastle.

We also want to say Happy Anniversary.  Two days ago, on December 30th we celebrated our 3rd anniversary with our funny bunnies.

They were a little bit naughty, but in general quite delightful members of the warren.   Inter-species communication continues to improve as the bunnies generally are well-behaved and rarely do things they aren’t supposed to do – like chew up the foam padding on my guitar stands.   But cardboard chewing is up and wire and furniture chewing is on the decline.  So overall these are good trends.

Hunny Bunny has come a long way from being the aloof and constantly frightened rabbit we adopted 3 years ago.     Last year I feel we finally began to have real “dialogue” and she drastically reduced incidents of biting people – most importantly ME!  this year, however, she has continued to open up emotionally.  The first year with her she would rarely want to be pet or even sit near us.  Now she feels comfortable enough to demand cuddle time from me several times a day.  She loves to be pet now!  She’s actually becoming quite spoiled with all the  massages she gets.  She’s become a very very sweet girl.

Their appetites for snacks is out of control.  They feel so comfortable with us that they will hop up in our laps and beg for food.   Otherwise they will not sit in our laps.

They continue to explore everything.  They both make regular trips on top of their supply bin and try to get into it.

Rory occasionally follows me out the door in the morning.  I don’t think he really wants to go to my office. But it would be awesome if he did!

Most of all, they continue to be little furry bursts of energy and joy.  I look forward to what they will do this year!

Rory Hopped up on the dining table chair. I had left it pulled out maybe 6 inches at best.  Rabbits are very curious creatures and Rory didn’t hesitate to try and see what was on the table.

 Hunny is a very pretty bunny. She is also very messy.

Rory is a handsome rabbit. This has been established in the past. And although I already knew that fact it was still a pleasure to shoot these photos.

Rory and Hunny want to wish you a very Happy Chinese New Year.  This is now year of the rabbit!

As this year is ending and we’re celebrating our second anniversary with these silly rabbits, we wanted to post a few  interesting moments from  this year:

We learned how skinny a bunny’s paws are. Here is Hunny after a blood test at the vet.

Rory can jump straight up to our bed if he wants to.

The bunnies love chewing on these willow baskets. Here’s the new one they received on Christmas next to the old one.

Rory regards the vacuum cleaner as his enemy and often refuses to move out of its way. (He occasionally will attack it when it’s turned off and left unsupervised.)

They are fascinated by my guitars and spend a considerable amount of time checking them out while hanging out in the office.

We still haven’t unpacked all of our boxes from the move. The bunnies now completely control the parlor.

Yes, that’s right. Today is the second anniversary of adopting Hunny & Rory! It’s impossible to state in words how much we love them.  The bunnies have really opened up to us in the last 24 months.  To watch their personalities come out and develop.  It’s also amazing to see how much they trust us now.  We’ve learned interesting things like:

• Both rabbits enjoy listening to: Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra and any official prepared speeches by President Obama!
• Hunny loves blueberies.
• Rory likes Blues music.
• Hunny will tolerate Metallica and Death Angel but does not care for Mastadon.
• Hunny loves tangerines.
• Hunny actually loves to be pet and cuddled, but she won’t come up to us and sit down.  Instead she will sit across from us and stare at us in a creepy fashion until we get the hint.
• The vacuum cleaner is Rory’s enemy. He is so bold now that often he refuses to move out of it’s way and will even attack it when it’s just sitting there.  Hunny is terrified by it.
• paper towel and toilet paper cardboard tubes are some of their favorite toys.
• Hunny loves the smell of cocktails.
• Rory loves raspberries.
• Both bunnies like to sit and listen when I play guitar.
• Rory doesn’t care if we cook meat for dinner. Hunny becomes frightened and hides.
• Hunny wants to kick us all off of the sofa and claim it as her own.

Sure he’s not a bunny but he’s still awesome! His name is Bandit, and he’s a young Border Collie pup that found a home with our buddy Adal.

This is what happens when you have a rabbit who makes it a point to hop up onto your coffee table every evening.  Here you see him trying to get to Kristen’s mug.  Also, enjoy the photos of Hunny & Rory hanging out in our  parlor.

Yep. We moved… again.  It’s ok though!  Back to our favorite neighborhood in San Francisco and the bunnies love the new place.

Here they are exploring and enjoying almost daily changes in the landscape with boxes moving, emptying and some furniture being rearranged.

Well back in late April we had a bit of a scare with Rory having a tummy ache .    Luckily, as a last ditch effort I picked him up and gently rubbed his tummy – and it worked!

Back to normal digestion and stuff.  Anyway, in July we moved back to our favorite neighborhood in San Francisco… so enjoy these last photos from the condo.

Actually Rory has met Brent several times.  What was different was tonight he jumped up on the sofa to hangout while Brent and I played Tekken 6 on the Xbox 360.   He then proceeded to groom Brent’s arm.  Hunny was also quite friendly today, and after claiming Brent’s shoes (by rubbing her chin over them – rabbit’s have scent glands under their chin and jaw) she felt safe enough to stretch out on the floor near us  in total relaxation.   Enjoy some other random photos from April including a few pix from a week ago when Rory wanted to hang out with me on the dining chairs.

Here’s another typical example of silly behavior in our warren… Any time we eat or drink, the bunnies think they should have some, too.  Here are some shots of Rory after he jumped up on the couch to see what Kristen was drinking.  Enjoy this coffee break with Rory and Kristen and a bonus picture of Rory  napping by his window later that afternoon.

As usual, things are always moving ahead fast here at Rabbit Kastle.  Sid & Kristen are going about their business.  Hunny and Rory have been busy bunnies.

As they get more comfortable with their surroundings and us, more of their personalities are starting to shine.   Hunny will lay out in the open now after dinner, and will even completely flop over on her side if Rory is relaxing next to her.   Rory,  has been showing off how smart he is.   Our rabbits like to climb up on boxes and the furniture, but we suspect Rory has been plotting to get on top of our dining table for months.   For the past few weeks he has been standing up and studying the dining chairs from various angles and vantage points.  Last month he managed to hop up into the seat of our dining chairs.  Well, the other night Rory saw an opportunity and he did not waste this chance!  One of the chairs was pulled out about half a foot from the table’s edge and it was all that he needed to jump up there.  He enjoyed his victory for a minute before Kristen convinced him to jump back down to the chair!

Dietary note: Hunny loves tangerines and Rory loves oranges!
